The service

go.mq.edu.au is a web redirection service intended to help University staff and students to create shorter web addresses. The service is not intended to replace good web site structure and does not allow for new address creation. A web address must already exist at an approved domain for the link service to operate.

Who can use go.mq.edu.au

All University staff and students can use go.mq.edu.au to create a short mq.edu.au url.

Benefits of this service

Main benefits of being able to create shorter web addresses are:
  • Addresses that are shorter look neater in email communications (a common problem in the mixed email client environment at the University)
  • Addresses can be easily shared in applications that are limited to the number of characters. For example SMS (Short messaging service) or social media.
  • Shorter addresses are easier to type in - for example if they are used in hardcopy printouts or need to be entered into a mobile device.


  • Restrictions of use

  • Due to branding concerns, the link must contain mq.edu.au (i.e. the link must pertain to the Macquarie University)
  • It must not be used for personal use
  • Must not contain inappropriate words
  • No special characters can be used, for e.g $%@
